Prof. Chairul Saleh Achieved 1st National Best TTG Title

Prof Chairul Saleh achieved 1st best title in national Teknologi Tepat Guna (TTG) 2012 held in Batam on 10-14 October 2012. His simple cheap dryer product defeated other designs from 33 provinces in Indonesia. Chairul Saleh’s best invention was a result of research funded by Seri-UKM-Malaysia and Kepulauan Riau government. He had done series researches there for two years and succeeded in inventing multi-functional dyer equipment using the sun lights. The dryer could be used by society for drying the fishes they caught. The fishes were placed within the closed dryer for not being dropped by the rain. The fishes dried by this dryer were more protected and cleaner.

The dryer was called as multi-functional dryer because it could be used for drying many things beside fishes such as many kinds of crisps, chili, and others. Prof. Chairul Shaleh explained that the dryer was firstly observed and designed by him with industrial engineering UII students last year but was less-perfect. Then, he continued the research in Batam in corporation with Kepulauan Riau government. Prof. Chairul Shaleh presented 3 TTG product and two of them became nomination. The second product was device for making drinking water from sea water.
Prof. Chairul Shaleh has produced 4 articles published in international journals indexed in Scopus. 7 units of his dryer equipment have been bought by Kepulauan Riau province and 20 units were booked for 2013. And 3 units of drinking water maker were booked for capacity of 3.000 liters/ day.
The dryer was made of wood and zinc as electricity conductor, ventilator, ice glasses as heat collector, and black paint. This dryer has 65% higher efficiency than natural drying process. Prof. Chairul Shaleh said that this dryer still needed some development to produce the better result.
